2019 Annual Report

Canadians personally donate funds for Education, Housing, Wells, Solar Lamps, Goats, Bicycles, Sewing Machines. Many also make the personal gift of Child Sponsorship, which is $100 per year to support a child.

This past year Rotary Club of Nanaimo Oceanside donated $1,000 towards a fresh water well. Lantzille Rotary donated $1,000 for fabric for school uniforms. BC Retired Teachers Association, RR Smith Memorial Foundation donated $1,000 for Daftari school books. An innovative and generous donation comes from 50% of the rental of a float cabin on the west coast of Vancouver Island, with the tax receipt issued to the renters.

All funds are wire transferred to Kagera to be spent as designated by donors and the TFC board of directors. The latest wire in July 2019 of $12,500 was designated to child sponsorship, Daftari school books, and education. We’re delighted that this brings our total wired donations, since 2013, to $183,200.

With the huge and urgent need to provide all school girls with a Personal Care Kit, these are given priority, and mostly hand carried from Canada to Guernsey and then onward by visitors to Kagera. To date 914 kits have been sent from Canada.

TUMAINI FUND CANADA ANNUAL REPORT SEPTEMBER 2019

$15 will help a student attend school

DAFTARI NOTEBOOKS

A MUST for students to attend SECONDARY SCHOOL

The Tanzania government has replaced Secondary School fees with other essential needs. Now Tumaini students MUST have a set of 10 exercise books called Daftari Notebooks.

Tumaini Fund Canada has recently sent some funds, but much more is needed.

Can you help a child stay in school?  With approximately 7,000 Secondary School students in 2020 – it’s a challenging task to fund!  These thousands of students from very poor families, mostly subsistence farmers earning about $110 annually, know that education will lift themselves and their families out of poverty – They desperately want to attend school.

Without our help, students will be refused entry to school for lack of notebooks.  A devastating situation for these anxious and eager students. In one school of 600 students, 110 are orphans supported by Tumaini.

Each set of 10 Daftari Notebooks cost $15    CAN YOU PLEASE HELP

Your gift of $15 will help an orphan attend school

In January 2019 without Tumaini’s help, over 3,900 students in Kagera, Tanzania will be refused entry to school for lack of notebooks. The required set of 10 Daftari Notebooks costs $15 Canadian and will give a child a chance at a brighter future and a way out of poverty. Please read more about this urgent need by clicking on this link. Help students attend school with a gift of required notebooks

We take electricity and light for granted

The orphans are unable to do homework in their homes after doing their chores. A gift of a solar lamp makes a world of difference and gives hope for a brighter future  which education can offer.  The solar panel from the lamp is taken to school and placed in a window for recharging. Please consider giving a donation for a solar lamp.  With many thanks on behalf of the orphans.  Solar lamp appeal

In memory of Shirley Picard, a wonderful Crafter

Tumaini Fund Canada is sad at the passing of good friend and gifted Crafter, Shirley Picard, who made countless dresses, boys’ shorts, sweaters, toques, and Personal Care items for the orphans in Kagera. Her lovely smile and helpfulness will be missed by all who volunteered with her.
