Volunteer with Tumaini
Volunteers are always welcome. There are many ways you can get involved and they don't all involve going on a trip to Africa! Here are some ideas for how you can help the widows and orphans in Tanzania.
How you can help
Projects
Join our once a month gatherings on the third Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 - 3:00pm at:
St. Mary’s Church hall, 2600 Powder Point Road in Nanoose Bay, BC.
Even if you don’t knit or sew, you can help by tracing and cutting out patterns for menstrual pads or sorting and packing items for personal care kits, and there is always time to socialize and have a cup of tea!
Work from Home
For those who can’t join our once a month gatherings but would like to work at home, sewing patterns are available.
For further information or for patterns, please phone 250-468-7539 or email tumainicanhelp@gmail.com
Bottle donations
Donations of all deposit-fee items can be dropped off at the wooden shed at the back of the church property on 2600 Powder Point Road, Nanoose Bay or can be taken to a local bottle depot and the money then donated to Tumaini Fund Canada by e-transfer: tumainicanhelp@gmail.com
Building/Carpentry
Our old storage and sorting shed had fallen into disrepair, so we replaced it with a new “Red Door” shed. A carpenter generously volunteered to construct it using lumber donated by a local sawmill, along with other donated materials and additional help with labor. The church, on whose property the shed stands, kindly provided financial support to cover the remaining costs.
